Va. & Columbia, Navy duty, teaching at V.P.I., and sympathy at the death of Shackelford, Sr. Of interest are letters of Shackelford, Sr. giving impressions of Europe in 1938. Early family letters mention Civil War deprivations and army desertions in Feb. 1865.
